Our Therapeutic Process
Your treatment is a partnership. During our sessions, I draw from a comprehensive toolkit of gentle, precise, and advanced hands-on techniques tailored to your body’s unique needs. Below are the core methods we may use.
Myofascial Release
This gentle but powerful technique focuses on the fascial layers surrounding the scar. By applying light, sustained pressure, we can feel for a “release” as the tissue softens and elongates, improving mobility throughout the entire fascial web.
Learn MoreCross-Friction Massage
Also known as transverse friction, this technique involves applying firm, specific pressure directly across the grain of the scar. This perpendicular movement helps to reorganize collagen fibers and improve tissue alignment, especially in deeper, more established scars.
Learn MoreSkin Rolling & Lifting
This technique involves gently pinching and lifting the scar tissue, then rolling it between the fingers. This motion is highly effective at loosening adhesions between the skin and the deeper layers of tissue, restoring the natural “slide and glide” of the fascial system.
Learn MoreScar Mobilization
We gently move the scar in all directions—up, down, side-to-side, and diagonally. Each gentle stretch is held to help improve the scar’s pliability, reduce the sensation of “tethering” to underlying tissues, and increase your overall range of motion.
Learn MoreEffleurage
These are classic, gentle, gliding strokes used to warm up the tissue around the scar. This technique is essential for preparing the area for deeper work and helps to promote healthy lymphatic drainage, reducing swelling and improving circulation.
Learn MorePetrissage
This technique involves gentle lifting, squeezing, and releasing the muscles and tissues surrounding the scar. By improving blood flow and flexibility in these adjacent areas, we reduce the overall strain on the scar itself, creating a healthier environment for healing.
Learn MoreCompression & Release
By applying sustained, gentle pressure directly to the scar for 30-60 seconds and then releasing, we can help to soften dense, raised scars (hypertrophic or keloid) by temporarily reducing blood flow and encouraging tissue remodeling.
Learn MoreVibration Therapy
Using fingertips to apply rapid, gentle oscillations to the scar tissue. This technique is highly effective for desensitizing hypersensitive scars, calming the local nerves, and improving overall sensory function in the area.
Learn MorePostural Alignment
We apply gentle traction to the scar by placing fingers on opposite ends and stretching the tissue lengthwise and in multiple directions. Holding these gentle stretches helps to improve the scar’s elasticity and prevent it from shortening and tightening over time.
Learn MoreFoundational Massage Motions
Underpinning our advanced techniques are foundational massage motions that form the basis of safe and effective scar therapy. These are adapted and combined to suit your specific needs.
Circular Motion
Using the pads of the fingers to make slow, circular movements over and around the scar. This is a primary technique to gently mobilize the tissue, improve local circulation, and assess the scar’s condition.
Linear Motion
Applying firm, consistent pressure and moving along the length of the scar. This motion helps to address restrictions that run parallel to the scar line, encouraging the tissue to lengthen and soften.
Side-to-Side Motion
Massaging across the width of the scar to challenge the tissue in a perpendicular direction. This is crucial for breaking down cross-linkages in the collagen and improving overall flexibility.
Your Journey to Healing
A carefully orchestrated therapeutic experience designed for optimal results.
Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with a comprehensive 90-minute assessment where we explore your medical history, current concerns, and treatment goals. This includes detailed scar evaluation, postural analysis, and movement assessment to create your personalized treatment plan.
Customized Treatment Protocol
Based on your assessment, I develop a bespoke treatment protocol combining the most appropriate techniques for your specific needs. Each session builds upon the previous, ensuring progressive improvement and lasting results.
Ongoing Therapeutic Sessions
Regular 60-minute sessions focused on systematically addressing all aspects of your scar tissue restrictions. Treatment frequency is tailored to your needs, typically ranging from weekly to monthly sessions.
